The Indianola boys soccer team is making a return trip to the state tournament after taking down Denison-Schleswig in the substate final Thursday evening 3-1, while the #13 softball team fell to #8 Carlisle.
The boys soccer team did not find the back of the net in the first half and ended up trailing at halftime 1-0, but came alive in the second half with constant pressure getting the tying goal from Allan Martinez in the 43rd minute assisted by Royer Garnica, then Jojo Amisi scored off of a deflection in the box in the 59th minute to take the lead, then Van Kauffman scored off of an Allan Martinez corner kick just two minutes later for extra insurance. The Indians advance to the state tournament for the second straight season, and await their opponent and schedule to be released for their quarterfinal matchup on Monday.
The Indians softball team fell to the Wildcats 4-3. They fall to 1-2 on the season, and will host Southeast Polk in the annual Strike Out Cancer game this evening. First pitch is scheduled at 7:15pm.
