
A busy Friday saw the Indianola girls soccer team upset Lewis Central to head to the state tournament, the girls golf squad finishing up a two-day state tournament run, and the boys and girls of summer competing.
The girls soccer squad fell behind 1-0 in the 25th minute, but Ella Trotter tied the score just four minutes later and the teams went into the halftime break tied at 1-1. Lauren Burk then pushed a goal across in the second half and the defense held firm to secure the trip to state. The Indians will match up with #1 Waverly-Shell Rock in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament in Ames.
The Indianola girls golf team placed 9th at the two-day state meet held Thursday and Friday at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City, shooting a team score of 693. Alexa Inman led the way individually for the Indians carding a 164 to place 26th, Camryn Overton recovered from a slow start to shoot a 173 to place 40th, Anna Blanchard ended with a 49th place finish shooting a 180, and Reese Lucas was just a shot behind with a 181 placing 53rd. The Indians graduate five seniors from the squad.
The Indianola softball team hosted Strike Out Cancer Night against rival Southeast Polk, winning in walkoff fashion 14-13. Sam Gripp, Ashley Schultz, Bria Boell, Dana Blake, and Tessa Gripp all hit homeruns, but the Indians still trailed 13-12 going into the bottom of the seventh where Schultz drove in the tying run and Sully Downey hit the game winner to walk it off. The Indians are now 2-2 on the season, and will next match up with Ballard on Tuesday.
The Indianola baseball team fell to Oskaloosa in a heartbreaker Friday in their home opener. The Indians saw a good start from Asher Brueck on the mound, and Zach Benge hit a solo homerun, but it wasn’t enough to pick up the Little Hawkeye Conference win. The Indians are now 6-3, and will host Valley on Tuesday.
