The Knoxville Federated Garden Club received a $10,000 donation from the Knoxville Community Foundation on Thursday.
Over their nearly 40-year history, the Foundation’s primary mission has been to invest in long-term, ‘brick-and-mortar’ community improvement projects that have a long-lasting, positive impact on the Knoxville community. The garden club, which maintains the Bessie Spaur Butterfly Garden in Knoxville, will use the donation for a new shade structure. Cathy Courtney with the garden club says the group appreciates the community support in their projects and is thankful for the donation from the community foundation.
“We really appreciate it and everything the community does for us to back us up and all of the projects we have. This year’s project is a shade structure that’s going to be over a couple of picnic tables that are up above the garden so people can enjoy sitting there out of the sun, wind, and rain to just enjoy the garden. Last year we did the water feature which was amazing and we appreciate all of the money we got from that too.”
The butterfly garden is located on the south side of the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics property.
