Maytag Pool in Newton opens for the season tomorrow, one day later than originally intended. A delay in training lifeguards due to water temperatures and weather caused the City of Newton to push back today’s originally scheduled opening. This past week the lifeguards completed the new certification training.
Maytag Pool in Newton’s Maytag Park was built in 1935, but recently underwent some significant renovations, thanks to funding from a voter approved park bond referendum in 2022. City Administrator Matt Muckler says the facility has a whole new look.
“There’s an all new play area in the shallow end for the kids so they love that. We have a zipline, new diving board, new shade structures. It looks updated and fresh.”
Maytag Pool was also repainted and significant infrastructure improvements were made, including the installation of new piping.
Open swim hours this season at Maytag Pool are from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. the rest of the week. Daily admission is $6.00 and a season pass is $50.00 per person. Children three and under are admitted free.
