Pella Girls Soccer Stuns #3 North Polk on Road to 16th-Ever State Appearance
The Pella girls soccer team is making a third consecutive trip to the final eight of Class 2A following an upset victory over North Polk. The #12 Dutch defeated the #3 ranked Comets by a 2-0 margin. Pella scored on a penalty kick early in the 2nd half off of Avary Hunsinger. The Dutch defense hung tough against North Polk, and Bri Shannon sealed the match with just over three minutes remaining with another goal. The Dutch will play in the school’s 16th ever state tournament. Pella’s opening match is on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in a rematch with conference rival Dallas Center-Grimes. Dutch Girls Golf Places 8th, Lyons Finishes as Medalist with Top Ten Finish
A Pella girls golfer earned All-Tournament honors as the Dutch team placed 8th in the Class 3A state golf tournament in Solon. Senior Karsyn Lyons placed in 8th overall to earn a medal in her third appearance in the final meet of the year.

Smock Advances to Final Four of Class 1A Singles at State Individual Tournament
Pella’s Claire Smock pulled double duty Friday, starting with her bid at the Class 1A girls state singles and doubles tournament in Waterloo. Smock won her first two matches, including a first round win over Camry Glass of Sergeant Bluff-Luton 7-6 (5), 6-2, and a second round victory over Kaylie Simons of Kuemper Catholic 6-1, 6-4. Following those matches, Smock traveled to Alleman to help the Dutch soccer team qualify for the state tournament. Claire takes on Kate Holton of Waterloo Columbus today in the semifinals; Smock lost in a third-set tiebreaker against the No. 2 ranked player in the state last Saturday in the team regional finals.
