Classes for Newton’s 2024-2025 school year ended yesterday, so the district’s summer food program begins this coming week. District Food Service Supervisor Julie Miller says parents and guardians will be given five days worth of breakfasts and lunches on Thursdays at one location.

“At Newton High School we will have a grab and go pick-up similar to what was done during COVID. Parents drove through the parking lot. That’s what we will be doing this year.”

Each child between the ages of one and eighteen is eligible for the breakfasts and lunches. Miller notes distribution is on a first come, first served basis. Parents and guardians do need to sign up for the program weekly via ParentSquare. Thursday’s food distribution will begin at 9 a.m.. Students in summer school and at the YMCA Day Camp will get fed at Emerson Hough Elementary school each day. There are no income requirements to participate in the Newton School District’s Summer Food Program.
