The Knoxville Boys Soccer Squad saw an impossible to make goal go the way of Gilbert in the 2nd overtime and fell to the #1 ranked Tigers 2-1 in the 1st round of the class 2A State Tournament on Monday heard live on 95.3 KNIA. The Tigers got on the board first with 10:45 left and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Panthers would come out and force the tempo in the 2nd half and with 25:05 remaining Ezra Schmidt nailed a goal from around 30 yards out to even the match at one. It stayed that way until 9:34 left in the 2nd overtime when the Tigers put a bender in to end the game. Panthers Coach Dylan Mick told KNIA/KRLS Sports he knew his team had a chance if they kept it close.
Mick: “We said all along if we can get one from them. We knew if we could get it to half just being down by one or none we can get one on these guys.”
Knoxville finishes the season 13-2-3 and will graduate 13 seniors from this season’s team.
