A Newton woman was placed on probation after breaking into a house she used to live in. 41-year-old Kristina Kay Danks was sentenced Monday, after pleading guilty to 3rd degree burglary, a class D felony.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says a burglary in progress call came in around 10 a.m. on November 22nd, 2024, and led to the discovery of Danks in a house on Highway F-48 West, on the west edge of Newton. The court filed criminal complaint states Danks moved out of the home a few months earlier, and broke in to remove kid related items. Officers determined she got into the residence by breaking a basement window.

District Court Judge David Faith sentenced Danks to probation for three years, fined her $1,.025, and set a restitution hearing for July 21st to determine if she owes the home owner any money for property damage.
