Sewer work and a stormwater utility project are closing streets in two areas of northeast Newton this week. As of today, the City of Newton has closed North 3rd Avenue East between East 4th and East 7th Streets North to replace a sewer service line at a residence. The City’s Public Works Department says this is part of a demolition project, and the road closure is expected to last through Friday.

The other street closure is in the 1000 block of East 10th Street North, where city crews are removing and replacing an underground storm pipe and concrete. This project is also expected to wrap up this Friday. Until then, the City of Newton’s Public Works Department is asking drivers to plan ahead, use alternate routes, and follow all posted detour signs.
