The Indianola City Council approved a bid for $118,657.50 from Vice Construction for the Apparatus Bay Drain Reconstruction Project for the Indianola Fire Department at their meeting Monday. Indianola Mayor Steve Richardson tells KNIA News the city has had months-long discussions about city facilities, including a possible new Indianola Public Safety Building for both the Indianola Fire Department and Indianola Police Department, but this was a project that couldn’t wait because of safety concerns.
“We’ve put these things off long enough. Those floor drains, if you go out there and look in the fire department for a pancake breakfast or a hot dog meal, something the police department or fire department does, you’ll notice the drains are in horrible conditions, they are trip hazards, and they are safety concerns. We are talking about fire departments here, being safe, and so we need to make sure our employees are safe.”
