The Indianola Police Department is asking residents to be mindful of recent scam text messages being sent around the community, stating they are from the DMV and demanding payments for outstanding traffic tickets.

The Iowa Attorney General’s Office says you should not give out personal information over the phone or in a text message if you don’t know the person they are talking to, and if you receive a call like this or a call they think may be a scam, to call the Iowa Attorney General’s Office. Government agencies or law enforcement, including the IRS, will not contact anyone over the phone demanding payment.
