The Monroe City Council wants residents to share their opinions about building an addition onto city hall, or an entire new city hall building. Council members say either option will cost about $1.2 million. Prior to putting the issue up to a public vote in November, Monroe residents are being asked to share their opinions privately through a survey on SurveyMonkey.

The current Monroe City Hall building was purchased for $80,000 in 1992, and city officials believe it needs more space and major improvements. Their list of needs includes more storage, parking, and security features, along with new windows, doors, ceilings, and roof.

If a new City Hall was built, the city council says the Monroe Police Department would move in. That would give the department more space, proper storage of evidence, privacy and accessibility to the public. Monroe residents can access the City Hall survey here
