The Pella Christian softball team picked up their first win of the season in a dominant 17-3 four-inning victory at Moravia Wednesday night, while the Eagles baseball team also downed the Mohawks 6-2.

On the softball diamond, Pella Christian jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead after the first inning, before the offense erupted for an 11-run top half of the second. The Eagles added onto their 14-1 advantage in the third inning, tacking on three more runs, and Moravia mustered just two runs in the bottom of the fourth as P.C. improved to 1-6 overall on the season. Rachel Kacmarynski went a perfect 3-3 at the plate and scored three runs while driving in a run to lead the Eagles offense. Amaia Agre, Brynn Roozeboom, and Laurel Roozeboom each recorded two hits in the win; with Agre adding four RBIs, four runs scored, and a walk; Brynn posting two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk; and Laurel contributing an RBI. Laurel also got the start in the circle, pitching four innings and allowing just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out two. Chloe Snyder delivered the loudest hit of the night for Pella Christian, blasting a second-inning grand slam to bring home four of her team-high five RBIs in the victory.

The Eagles baseball team played a much tighter contest against the Mohawks. Pella Christian jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning, only for Moravia to answer back with a run in the bottom of the frame. The Mohawks then re-tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning, and the draw held until the sixth. The Eagles regained the advantage in the top of the sixth on a Josiah Vink single that plated Hudson Meixner, before Garrett Wielard pushed the lead to 4-2 with a double to score Vink. Pella Christian tacked on two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh, when Eliot Menninga doubled and Grant Kelderman blasted a two run homer to left field to push the Eagles to 2-7 overall on the summer. Vink and Kelderman led the Pella Christian offense in the win, with Vink going 3-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Kelderman going 2-4 with the home run, a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Logan Gallaher got the start on the mound and recorded a no-decision after striking out two in 3.1 innings while allowing just one earned run. Eliot Menninga came on in relief and got the win after striking out five in two innings. Ben Van Wyngarden finished the game on the bump, going 1.2 innings while striking out two.

The Eagles summer sports squads will now turn their attention to the Tulip City Showdown, as they travel to Pella Friday for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader.
