The Norwalk softball team clubbed five home runs and improved to 12-0 with a pair of wins in Saturday’s West Des Moines Valley Tournament at the George Davis Softball Park. The Class 4A fourth-ranked Warriors defeated 5A No. 15 Dubuque Senior 8-2 and rallied past 4A No. 6 Fort Dodge 5-3. Both games were called after six innings due to a time limit.

Norwalk plated four runs in the sixth to pull away from Dubuque Senior. Nyah Hulbert paced the team’s 11-hit attack, bashing her eighth and ninth homers of the season and adding a double to finish with five RBI. She has now driven in 29 runs in only 12 games. Bailey Birmingham went 2-for-4, including her fifth home run. Carly Brewer and Dani Peters both added a pair of singles and Maddie Gullion hit a triple. Leah Crick pitched 5 ⅔ innings for the win, allowing five hits and only one earned run.

The Warriors trailed Fort Dodge 3-1 after one inning, but ace pitcher Carly Brewer allowed just one base runner over the final five frames to earn her eighth win in the circle. Norwalk scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to break a 3-3 tie.

Brewer pitched a six-inning one-hitter, striking out six while issuing one walk and a hit batter. She helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a home run and three RBI. Addie Fisher also hit a homer, Gullion was 2-for-3 with a double, and Hulbert and Peters both added a double as well.
