The Pella softball team was able to finish strong and find a quality win at the Oskaloosa Softball Classic on Saturday, going 1-1 on the day. The Dutch defeated #6 in 3A Mount Vernon 6-2 after falling to Albia 14-1 to start the competition.

In game two, Katie Scheckel opened the contest in the first inning with a two-run home run to get the scoring started. Riley Parks was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and Lucy Carlson also added two hits. Emma Eekhoff earned the win in the circle, striking out ten batters. Head Coach Katie Banowetz also commended the defense of Abby Melvin on a few key plays.

Game one was a rougher go against Albia, following a tough end to the doubleheader with Pella Christian approximately 12 hours before first pitch. However, Eekhoff tallied a home run for the lone score in the contest. Avery Parks and Sam TeGrootenhuis combined as starting pitchers for the Dutch in the three innings played against the Lady Dees. TeGrootenhuis earned her first varsity strikeout in the effort.

Pella’s record is now 5-6 and they are off until a road trip to Gilbert on Tuesday. The Dutch baseball team travels to Ballard on Monday.
