The Knoxville Summer Sports Squads were in Osceola on Monday and went a combined 2-1 with the baseball squad sweeping Clarke 9-0 in game one and 4-1 in the nightcap while softball set a high water mark for runs scored this season but still was unable to get its first win in an 11-6 setback. For the baseball squad, the Panthers scored six runs in their half of the 7th to pull away from Clarke. Lincoln Norris got the win going four innings giving up two hits and striking out eight while Brady Roozeboom went 3/5 with an RBI. Game two was live on 95.3 KNIA and the Indians could not figure out Roston McCarty as he was brilliant going the distance allowing just four hits, walking none and striking out eight. Coach Turner Devore told KNIA/KRLS Sports McCarty’s work in the offseason is showing.

Devore: “That’s the guy who’s thrown all winter, and a kid that’s throwing with confidence and getting strikeouts. Would’ve loved a shutout, but one earned run over 14 innings we’ll gladly take.”

Knoxville got five hits of its own and took advantage of three Clarke errors. Roozeboom got another RBI as did Garritt Kingery. Meanwhile, just down the drive from the baseball field, the softball Panthers scored a handful of runs, but could not keep Clarke at bay 11-6. Knoxville got down early but battled back to within a run at 3-2, but the Indians had a big inning in the 4th to go up 9-2. Knoxville would cut the lead to 9-6, before Clarke played some insurance runs. Knoxville softball is 0-7 and 0-5 in the South Central Conference while baseball is now 7-5 and 5-2 in the conference. Softball is off until Wednesday when the Panthers travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont while baseball will hit the road to Indianola tonight. You can hear that game on 94.3 and 95.3 KNIA.
