The Newton Baseball and Softball teams lost at home to Dallas Center-Grimes on Monday night. The Mustangs won the baseball game 11-1, and defeated the Cardinal softball team 17-0 in four innings in a game that was broadcast live on 92.1 KRLS and the KRLS3 Stream.

Newton’s baseball team had three hits against Dallas Center-Grimes. Cade Bauer one of the three base knocks and scored the Cardinals only run in the first inning on a double by Gabe Otto. Kreytein Wickliffe had the other hit for the Cardinals, also recording a double. Newton committed four errors in the loss, while also walking eight and hitting two Dallas Center-Grimes batters. 

The Cardinals softball team hung tough with the Class 3A #5 Mustangs through three innings, before Dallas Center-Grimes scored thirteen runs with two outs in the fourth inning. Newton had  three hits in the loss, with Emerson Ray, Chloe Swank, and Viana Vasseau each recording singles. The Cardinals also committed five errors, while Dallas Center Grimes posted thirteen hits, seven walks, and seven stolen bases. 

The Newton baseball team is now 3-11 overall and 1-8 in the Little Hawkeye Conference, while the softball squad is 5-8 overall and 2-7 against conference teams. The Cardinals softball team is back at home tonight to play Boone at 7:30 p.m., while the baseball squad is off until hosting Norwalk on Friday.
