The City of Newton’s annual Newton Fest celebration is this Friday and Saturday, and will include the Newton Senior High School Alumni Association’s Class Reunion Weekend. Newton Alumni Association President Lori Gilmore is from the Class of 1985, and has headed up the Alumni Association for the past four years. She says the All-Class Reunion begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Legacy Plaza, and is always well attended.
“It’s just a really good opportunity for everybody to mix and mingle. Any class ending in a zero or five, it’s your year for your class reunions. And alumni that live around the area also like to come back every year just to see who is back for their reunions. So it’s just a great, great night.”
The All-Class Reunion has a $5 per person coverage charge, which supports Newton Dollars for Scholars. Saturday morning’s Brunch and Hall of Fame Ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m. in Newton High School’s Upper Gym. The 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees are Mike Dorrell from the Class of 1994, Nick Easley from the Class of 2015, Larry Hurto from the Class of 1970, and former Newton School District Administrator and Educator Gary Kirchhoff. The Jack Chadwick Best Shot Golf Tournament will also be held Saturday at Westwood Golf Course
Newton Fest begins with several free events Friday including a magic show at the Newton Public Library, a showing of the Wizard of Oz at Capital II Theatre, a pool party at Maytag Pool, and a UV Foam Party at Maytag Park.
