
The Pella Christian summer sports squads dropped two high scoring affairs at home Monday night in Little Hawkeye Conference play against Oskaloosa, as the softball team fell 13-7 and the baseball team lost 13-8.
On the softball diamond, the Indians got the scoring started with three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame to grab their lone lead of the night. Oskaloosa answered back with two runs in the second inning and another run in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead, then further added to the advantage with five runs in the fifth inning. Pella Christian plated three runs across the fifth and sixth innings to slightly cut into the deficit, but the Indians added two runs in the sixth inning to secure the win and drop the Eagles to 2-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference. Jessa De Vries and Brynn Roozeboom led the offense on the night, with each going 2-4 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Chloe Snyder also went 2-4 in the contest, while scoring two runs and batting in another.
The Pella Christian and Oskaloosa baseball squads played two scoreless innings before the scoring got underway in the third. The Indians struck first for two runs in the top of third, only for the Eagles to answer with five runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-2 lead. Oskaloosa quickly responded with six runs in the fourth inning to regain an 8-5 lead, but Pella Christian battled back to retie the game at 8-8 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. The game slipped away from the Eagles in the sixth inning however, as the Indians plated five runs to end the scoring and drop P.C. to 3-11 overall and 0-8 in the conference. Ben Van Wyngarden went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the offense in the loss, while Grant Kelderman and Brecken Ritzert each added two hits, an RBI, and a run scored.
The Pella Christian baseball team is back in action on the road tonight at 7 pm against Centerville at Indian Hills Community College, while the softball squad is off until hosting Indianola in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
