The Newton School Board welcomed the State Championship Boys Track and Field Team to Monday night’s school board meeting, along with the state qualifiers from the girls track and field team and the boys tennis team. Newton head boys track and field coach Chad Garvis told the school board all the team members worked hard and put the team first.

“The biggest two things I thought our guys did a great job with was effort and attitude each and every day. Our effort was good in practice and we kept good attitudes. Everybody just focused and worked hard.”

The boys track team produced two event champions in the 4×200 meter relay and Caden Klein in the 200 meter dash. The girls track team qualified 11 events at the state meet and achieved six top ten finishes. In boys tennis, Ethan Valtman qualified for the state meet, but was injured and was unable to compete.
