
The Newton softball team dropped a non-conference home game to Boone 14-5 Tuesday night.
The visiting Torreadors scored three runs in the first inning, and built leads of 7-2, 9-3, 12-4, and 14-5 over the course of the game’s five innings. The Cardinals scored their five runs over four innings off of two walks and 11 hits, including a home run by Mack Sims. Sims also had a double and three runs batted in as she went two for four at the plate. Emerson Ray was 2-3 at the plate with one run batted in. The other Newton run was scored off a hit from Sloan Broderson. Boone’s fourteen runs were scored off twelve hits, four walks, three stolen bases, and three Cardinals’ errors.
The Newton softball team fell to 5-9 overall, and will attempt to get back in the win column tonight on the road at Pleasantville at 7:30 p.m.
