The City of Newton has closed two blocks of East 21st Street South due to the reconstruction of the tennis courts at Aurora Park. The closure that began yesterday is expected to last through Friday, September 19th. East 21st Street South between 1st Avenue East and South 3rd Avenue East is being used as a staging area for the project, and drivers are encouraged to use the marked detours the city has laid out, and avoid the area if possible. Any questions should be directed to the Newton Public Works Department at 641-792-6622.
Just last week, the Newton City Council awarded two contracts for the Aurora Park tennis court renovations. The bids totaled just over $1 million dollars. The project involved the reconstruction of the six current courts, and the addition of two new courts. The existing lights at the tennis courts will also be replaced with a new system that will include lighting for the four nearby pickleball courts.
