The Indianola School Board is currently taking applications from interested individuals to fill the open board seat after the resignation of Rob Keller earlier this month.
Superintendent Tara Paul tells KNIA News the board is taking information from the public to serve on the board until November.
“We’re taking letters of interest. So anyone interested in filling this position, it is a four-month fill, until the next regular election in November. So if interested we are taking those letters of interest and just drop them off at the administrative office. Then on June 26th, the board will look at all of those interested and their letters and appoint somebody.”
Per board policy, the board will appoint an individual to fill the position until the next regular election, which will take place in November. During that election, the vacated position will appear on the ballot and the individual elected to fill the vacated position will be elected for the next two years.
The public can submit a petition to request a special election from the board, but per state law the board can reject the petition as the appointment will be within 180 days of the next scheduled election in November.
