Marion County Historical Society’s Pioneer Day will be held in Knoxville on Saturday.
The annual event will take place at the Marion County Historical Village which is located at the entrance of Marion County Park off of Willetts Drive. Pioneer Day is a full day of events to honor the history of Marion County starting with a flag raising and a pancake and sausage breakfast at 8:00 am. Other activities throughout the day include multiple live musical performances, square dancing, a beef burger lunch, quilting, wool spinning, rug weaving, a bake sale, games for kids, and more. The day of activities will close with the Marion County Historical Society Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in the Valley Chapel at 2:45 pm. Marion County Historical Society President Dan Carlson encourages everyone to come out to the event to be a part of celebrating the history of Marion County.
“It gets people outside, they get to have a meal, listen to the entertainment and share stories. I often walk around and visit with people who are dining or in their lawn chairs listening to music. They have stories for me about what they used to do or if they volunteered for the historical society ten, twenty or thirty years ago.”
