The Newton softball team ended a two game losing streak Wednesday by scoring their most runs in a contest this season, as they defeated Pleasantville 19-2. 

The Cardinals scored 14 runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the non-conference road win. Newton opened the game by scoring three runs in the first inning, and pushed their lead to 5-0 with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. The Trojans scored their two runs in the bottom of the sixth, before the Cardinals had their offensive outburst in the final frame. Newton had eleven hits, eight walks, two hit batters, and benefited from four Pleasantville errors. Leileigh Hammons pitched all seven innings for the Cardinals and struck out twelve Trojan batters, while giving up four hits, two walks, and one earned run. She also had three hits at the plate, including a home run and three runs batted in. Sloan Broderson batted in four runs for Newton, while getting two hits in three at bats. Chloe Swank had three hits in five at bats in the game, and also had a run batted in. 

The Newton Softball team improved to 6-9 on the year and will host Class 4A #4 Norwalk Friday night in a game that can be heard live on the KRLS3 Stream, with pregame coverage beginning at 7:15 p.m.
