
The Newton baseball and softball teams begin the second half of Little Hawkeye Conference play at home this evening against Norwalk.
Both Cardinal squads opened conference play on May 28th at Norwalk and lost all four games. The baseball team fell 7-4 in the first matchup and 4-3 in the nightcap. The Warriors had fourteen hits and benefitted from thirteen walks over the two games, while Newton had ten hits and seven walks. The Cardinal baseball team will try to end a seven game losing streak. They are 1-8 in conference games and 3-11 overall, while Norwalk has six conference wins and four losses, and is 7-8 overall.
The Newton softball team dropped their first two games against the Class 4A #4 Warriors 10-0 in four innings, and 7-4. The Cardinals had four hits on the night, including a Mack Sims home run in game two. The Warriors combined for 21 hits in the doubleheader in late May. Newton won their last game Wednesday at Pleasantville 19-2, upping their overall record to 6-9, while the team’s conference mark is 2-7. Norwalk is 8-2 in the conference and 13-2 overall, after splitting a doubleheader at home with Class 4A #5 Dallas Center-Grimes Wednesday night.
The baseball game starts at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live on the KNIA3 Stream, with pregame coverage at 6:45 p.m. The softball game begins at 7:30 p.m., and will be broadcast on the KRLS3 Stream with the pregame at 7:15 p.m.
