The Newton School District ended the 2024-2025 school year on a positive note in terms of enrollment according to Superintendent Tom Messenger. He says the school district had 2,622 students when classes ended, which is six students less than the first day’s enrollment.

“Realistically, being down six from the first day of school is actually kind of a positive, because we were down double-digit numbers in the middle of the year from the first day. So we did bounce back a little bit. The elementary schools were actually up eleven students from the first day of the school year. That’s a positive sign too, as we move forward.”

Newton High School ended the past school year with 856 students, down 15 students from the 871 that began the year in August. According to Messenger, the classes that have been graduating from Newton High School the past several years have been noticeably larger than the kindergarten classes.
