Newton Fest is back. The City of Newton’s annual two-day celebration features several free events today including a magic show at the Newton Public Library, a showing of the Wizard of Oz at Capital II Theatre, a community pool party at Maytag Pool, and a UV Foam Party at Maytag Park. Newton Mayor Evelyn George says that she views Newton Fest as more than just a lot of events and activities.

“Newton Fest is truly a celebration of all things in Newton, and to me it’s a celebration of growing up in Iowa. You have a chance to enjoy a lot of the amenities of your community. But you also meet old friends and make new friends, because you are interacting with people you don’t get to see on a daily or weekly basis.””

Saturday’s activities include a car show put on by Newton Main Street and the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce, a Newton Fest Pickleball Tournament hosted by the Newton YMCA, a Family Fun Zone and Safety Fest at Maytag Park, a concert by Damon Dotson at Maytag Bowl, and the Fierce Faith Music Concert at Community Heights Alliance Church. A complete list of Newton Fest Activities can be found at newtonfest.org.

The Newton Alumni Association is also hosting its annual Class Reunion Weekend today and Saturday, which includes tonight’s All Class Reunion at Legacy Plaza, Saturday morning’s Brunch and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, and Saturday’s Jack Chadwick Memorial Golf Tournament.
