
The Norwalk baseball and softball teams will try for a season sweep of the Newton Cardinals tonight in Little Hawkeye Conference play at Newton. The varsity baseball game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3), with pregame coverage at about 6:45. The softball game will start at 7:30 on kniakrls.com (KRLS3). Pregame coverage begins at 7:15.
Both Norwalk squads had Thursday night off after splitting conference doubleheaders against league-leading Dallas Center-Grimes on Wednesday. The Warrior baseball team put together a five-run sixth-inning rally to beat the Mustangs 6-4 in game two, improving to 7-8 overall and 6-4 in the Little Hawkeye. The Cardinals enter tonight at 3-11 overall and 1-8 in the LHC, having lost seven games in a row. Norwalk swept Newton in a May 28 doubleheader, winning 7-4 and 4-3 in eight innings.
The Warrior softball team remains fourth in the latest Class 4A rankings despite suffering their first two losses of the season earlier this week. Norwalk earned a split with Dallas Center-Grimes on Wednesday, dropping game one 4-3 in eight innings and taking the night cap 5-3. The Warriors are 13-2 overall and 8-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Newton is 6-9 and 2-7, respectively. Norwalk swept the May 28 doubleheader by scores of 10-0 and 7-4.
