A ribbon cutting put on by the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce and the Knoxville Alumni Association was held Thursday for “The Locke”.
The ribbon cutting event was a way for the community members in attendance to honor the history of Ken Locke Stadium and celebrate the future of the venue. The Knoxville Alumni Association is currently fundraising to turn the property into a multi-purpose community space. Players from the Iowa Whitetail Bucks semi-pro football team were also in attendance at the ribbon cutting, after they recently announced that Ken Locke Stadium will be their home venue for games this season, which starts on Saturday at 5:00 pm.
The stadium renovation is expected to be completed in phases over five years with an effort to fundraise over $7 Million. Planned improvements to the stadium include a new community center, pickleball courts, a resurfaced track, visitor seating improvements, paved road, a new main entrance, and field improvements with seasonal ice skating.
