Newton Police have arrested a second Newton man for a home break-in on West 6th Street South back in February, and the theft of two shotguns and a rifle from the residence. In early May, Newton Police issued an arrest warrant for 39-year-old Branden Lee Jones, which was also when the first suspect in the case, 22-year-old Blake Logue, was taken into custody on eight felony charges. Newton Police claim photos of the missing .222 rifle, .410 bolt-action shotgun, and .410 break-action shotgun were found on Logue’s phone, along with text messages implicating Jones in the theft and attempted sale of the guns. Newton Police also say Logue admitted to helping Jones commit the burglary. Jones’ warrant arrest occurred in Newton this past Monday, and he is charged with two class D felonies for first offense trafficking in stolen weapons and dominion or control of a firearm or offensive weapon by a domestic abuse offender. Court records show he has a serious misdemeanor domestic assault conviction in Jasper County from November of 2006. Jones is being held in the Jasper County Jail pending a preliminary hearing Monday.
Logue is free on a $45,000 bond he posted last Thursday and his next court appearance is also scheduled for Monday. He’s facing a class C felony second degree burglary charge along with seven class D felonies, which include third-degree burglary, three counts of trafficking stolen weapons, and three counts of dominion or control of a firearm or offensive weapon by a domestic abuser. In March of last year, Logue entered a negotiated guilty plea to second offense domestic assault.
