The Knoxville City Council approved a change to the city’s fireworks ordinance at their meeting Monday night.
The change in the ordinance will now allow fireworks to be discharged by consumers in the city limits on July 3rd, July 4th, and December 31st. This is due to a change in state legislation where communities now have to allow fireworks to be discharged on those days. Also at the meeting the council approved facade improvement applications from Van Zante Construction and Kone Korner but voted down the application from First United Methodist Church. This now brings the total number of approved applications to 14. The council then approved the construction contract for this year’s facade improvements for Christner Contracting and approved a resolution setting salaries/wages for appointed officers and non-collective bargaining unit employees of the City of Knoxville for the Fiscal Year beginning July 1st.
The meeting closed with the council entering into closed session but no action was taken.
