The Newton Farmer’s Market will be open an extra hour today and has many special attractions. The first Farmer’s Market of the season was held last Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the new Legacy Plaza Greenspace. Market Manager Nikki Brain said it went incredibly well, with over 30 vendors.
“Twice the number of vendors as we have had before, and the addition of live music and food trucks. So there was a lot of coordination and it went off without a hitch.”
The Newton Farmer’s Market is held, weather permitting, every Tuesday from June through September. Normal hours are 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., but every third Tuesday of each month the closing time is pushed back to 7p.m. with extra activities and attractions provided. Today’s additional events include a parade of at least 30 tractors from the WHO Great Iowa Tractor Ride, an appearance by the KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio, kid activities that include balloon animals and temporary tattoos, and live music from iNFUZion on the Green Space from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Brain says the food trucks that will be available include Cuisine Queen, Kikis, Frankie’s BBQ, Outside Scoop Ice Cream. Lucky Wife Wine Slushie Truck, and others.
