The Norwalk baseball and softball teams both defeated Bondurant-Farrar in non-conference action on Monday night. The Warriors won game one of a baseball doubleheader 8-5 while game two was suspended by rain and lightning in the fourth inning with the score tied 1-1. Norwalk topped the Bluejays in softball 1-0.

Baseball

The Warrior baseball team improved to 9-8 overall in a game that saw both sides commit at least three errors. Norwalk scored four runs in the bottom of the third to build a 5-1 lead and used a two-run sixth to win 8-5. Eli Benschoter led the hitting attack with two doubles and two runs scored while Xavier Bush and Rhylee Schmidt both drove in a pair. Bush went 2-for-3 with a double and Brady Wilkening was 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Cole Wardlow improved to 3-2 on the mound, allowing six hits and only two earned runs in 5 ⅔ innings. Wardlow struck out six batters before Ashton Hans recorded the final four outs for his first save. The Warriors return to Little Hawkeye Conference play on Wednesday, hosting Pella Christian at 7:00 p.m.

Softball

On the softball diamond, Class 4A fourth-ranked Norwalk prevailed in a 1-0 pitchers duel against the 4A 11th-ranked Bluejays. Bailey Birmingham provided the lone tally in the fourth inning, blasting her seventh home run of the season. Nyah Hulbert, Carly Brewer and Maddie Gullion all added a single for the Warriors, who struck out eight times. Brewer pitched a shutout in the circle, scattering seven hits and notching six strikeouts.

Norwalk improved to 17-2 overall and is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Davenport Central today starting at 3:00 p.m.
