The Newton High School Shooting Club spent this past Friday and Saturday participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program’s Sporting Clay Championship at Highland Hunting in Riverside. Coach Curtis Thompson says the Senior squad consisting of 9th through 12th graders placed 14th out of 30 teams with a score of 465 out of 600. The top three scores out of the 6 member team are used. Individually, Newton shooters placed 64th, 68th, 71st, and 72nd out of the 119 scored. The Senior squad members are Jacob Bell, Ben Leonard, Andrew Machin, Gavin Smead, Jarret Sweeney, and Keagan Thompson.

This past Thursday, Newton’s Intermediate squad consisting of 7th and 8th graders placed 10th out of 20 teams at the 2025 Sporting Clay Championship. Their individual placings out of 56 shooters were 38th, 52nd, and 53rd. The Intermediate squad members are Kaiden Brown, Jase Layton, and Rayn Seiler.
