The Norwalk softball team journeyed to Davenport Central on Tuesday and racked up 29 runs and 31 hits in a doubleheader sweep of the Blue Devils. The Class 4A fourth-ranked Warriors won game one 18-7 in six innings and took the night cap 11-2 in five.

Norwalk posted crooked numbers in six different innings on the day, including a seven-run second inning, a four-run fifth and a five-run sixth in game one. Hallie Karnatz led the Warriors’ 19-hit onslaught, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI. Maddie Gullion was 3-for-5 with a double and four runs-batted-in while Leah Crick also went 3-for-5 with a solo home run. Nyah Hulbert, Bailey Birmingham and Hailey Hook added two hits each. Hulbert homered and scored three runs and Birmingham crossed the plate four times. Crick pitched three innings of relief to record the win.

In game two, the Warriors took control behind a three-run first, a five-run fourth and a three-run fifth, totaling 12 hits. Carly Brewer finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and four RBI. Birmingham and Gullion both singled and doubled, and Hulbert ripped her 12th home run of the year. Lillian Garvey added a double and pitched four innings for the win, striking out six and walking just one batter.

Tonight’s schedule

The Norwalk baseball and softball teams return to Little Hawkeye Conference play tonight, hosting Pella Christian. The baseball game can be heard live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3) and the softball game will air on 92.1 KRLS. Pregame coverage for both games will begin at about 6:45.
