A small modification to the weekly residential recycling collection time in Newton begins July 1st. The Newton City Council has approved Dodd’s Solid Waste and Recycling’s request to push the start time for collection up a couple of hours, from 9 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Mayor Evelyn George says the switch effective July 1st, does not impact garbage collection.

“For the City of Newton pick-up, recycling needs to be on the curb by 7 p.m. at the latest. The trash is still at midnight. They will make separate rounds, but if you can make sure your recycling  is out by 7 p.m. that would be great, and the trash can come out later.”

Again, this change does not take effect until July 1st. That’s also when a $3.39 per month increase for garbage and recycling collection and disposal starts, under a new five-year contract the Newton City Council approved with Dodd’s last month. Newton’s current monthly residential collection rate is $15.16. That rate includes garbage and recycling collection, landfill and recycling tipping fees, leaf bag collection, and Christmas tree collection. There’s also a built-in annual rate adjustment tied to the Urban Consumer Price Index in the new contract with Dodd’s.
