Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt discusses summer safety on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.

Sandholdt says there are several ways to be safe throughout the summer. Sandholdt stresses the importance of boating safety and life jackets and making sure motorists use extra caution with the influx of kids out and about this time of year. Sandholdt tells KNIA/KRLS that drivers need to be aware of their speed, especially when driving in those areas where kids can be playing.

“Obviously slowing down in those residential areas, that’s the number one thing. We all get in a hurry, we’re all in a rush to go places and different things but when you’re in those residential areas those youngsters arean;t paying near as much attention as they should. Whether mom or dad should be watching them or correcting them is another topic but you just really have to slow down. Especially if you’re coming upon a vehicle that is parked on the edge of the road or a group of vehicles, a lot of the time youngsters will dart out from in between them, where you don’t see them in time.”
