Newton boys basketball coach Jason Carter took next year’s juniors and seniors, as well as two sophomores, to a three-day camp in Lawrence, Kansas late last week. The team played seven games at the University of Kansas, and took on some teams from larger schools from five different states. Coach Carter believes the trip was an eye opener, and especially useful for his players who will be new to the varsity squad next season.
“One of our kids even made the comment that you really have to work hard to get open on the wing and start your offense. So I really think it will help our kids understand what it takes to compete at a high level, because those are the types of games you want to be in at the end of next season when it comes to making a run at the state tournament.”
The Newton boys basketball coach also said it was a great time to come together as a team. The team will be back on the court on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to play games at a camp in Johnston.
