The Indianola City Council opted out of a partnership with Service Line Warranties of America at their meeting Monday, a private business that offers insurance on the sewer lines from the house to the street, which is the responsibility of the owner for repair if damaged and is not covered by normal home insurance.

Mayor Steve Richardson tells KNIA News several years ago the city council agreed to allow Service Line Warranties of American to send out advertising by mail that uses the city logo, despite it not being a city program. Mayor Richardson said the business operating in the city is not an issue, but the council was concerned about it looking like a city-endorsed business.

“We’ve run into a lot of complaints about the fact that it looks like, because they were using the City of Indianola logo, it was being promoted by the City of Indianola and it was not. We’ve never promoted that. We gave them permission to use the logo, I’m not exactly sure why we did that but we did, so last night (Monday) the decision was made to cancel the contract. They could still list us as a city they do business with or in, but not send out the letters. We have to give them a 90-day notice, so people may still get the letters but please note it is not from the City of Indianola.”
