Radar-indicated wind gusts prompted a Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in south central Iowa this morning. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 6:15 to just before 7 a.m. for a warning including most of Jasper County and again from 9:05 a.m. until 9:55 a.m. for another. Scattered thunderstorm activity brought reported wind gusts up to 45 MPH in Newton and several rounds of moderate-to-heavy rainfall across many communities in the listening area. Three staff members provided live on-air coverage, which included updates from a Weatherology meteorologist. Extreme heat will settle into the region over the next several days.
