Uncomfortable and potentially dangerous summer heat is set to return to the region this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, daytime highs will climb into the mid-90s starting today and continue through Monday evening. Overnight lows will only drop into the mid-to-upper 70s, providing little relief. Heat index values are expected to top 100 degrees in the afternoon and early evening hours during the four-day heat spell, with the hottest two days expected this Saturday and Sunday. A heat advisory is in place through Monday. Those who need to be outdoors for activities should take extra precautions, including frequent hydration and air conditioning breaks, and avoid prolonged, strenuous activities.
