It was a split on one side of Panther Drive, while another tough loss on the other side on Friday night. The Knoxville Baseball Squad split with Centerville in a double header winning game one 14-3 ending it after the 5th inning. The big blow came in the 3rd inning when Grant DeMoss blasted a three run homer to left field to put the Panthers up 5-2. DeMoss had three RBI as did Kyler Gifford. Roston McCarty got the win allowing just three hits and walking one. In the nightcap, the Big Reds turned the tables on the Panthers getting up 9-0 before Knoxville started chipping away. The Panthers would outhit Centerville 10-7 with Gifford collecting three hits again and driving in two runs. Brenden Woolsey went just an inning and a third taking the loss. Coach Turner Devore was largely pleased with this week….
Devore: “We knew we were going to have our work cut out for us. We had a lot of guys throw this week and we probably jinxed ourselves on the bus ride home last night, talking about how good our pitching has been.”
Knoxville is now 12-7 on the season. For the Knoxville Softball Squad it was another tough night on Panther Drive as they got down early, but came back to take the lead in the middle of the game and held a 6-5 lead until the 6th inning when Centerville retook the lead for good to win 8-6. Both Panther teams will be back in action at home to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Monday.
