The Pella Christian softball squad won their fourth straight game Friday night with a 9-2 victory over Des Moines Christian, while the Eagles baseball squad fell to the Lions 8-4.

On the softball diamond, the game was locked in a 1-1 tie after the first two innings, but Pella Christian ran away with the contest for their first four-game winning streak since May 24-27, 2023. The Eagles tacked on four runs in the third inning to take a 5-1 lead, before adding another three runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to secure the victory. Chloe Snyder led Pella Christian’s offensive attack in the contest, going a perfect 3-3 at the plate with three runs scored, an RBI, and a double. Laurel Roozeboom had a big night for the Eagles, going 2-4 at the dish with four RBIs, a double, and a run scored; and also recorded the complete game win in the circle while striking out four and allowing just one earned run. The recent four game-winning streak for the Pella Christian softball team has pushed their overall record to 7-11 on the season.

The Eagles baseball team got the offense rolling early in their game against the Lions, but saw it fade down the stretch in the 8-4 loss. Pella Christian jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the second inning and scored single runs in the third and fourth frames, while Des Moines Christian plated two runs in the third and one run in the fourth, giving the Eagles a narrow 4-3 lead. The Lions retied the game at 4-4 in the top of the fifth inning, and after a scoreless sixth, added on another four runs in the seventh to drop Pella Christian to 5-17 overall on the summer. Logan Gallaher was the lone Eagle with multiple hits in the game, going 3-4 with two runs scored. Eliot Menninga was one of four Pella Christian hitters to record an RBI on the night, blasting a solo home run to left field in the third inning, while Brecken Ritzert, Grant Kelderman, and Finn Spronk added the other three runs batted in.

The Eagles return to action on Monday for the third and final Tulip City Showdown matchup with Pella. Monday’s baseball game can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, while the softball contest will be broadcast live on the KRLS2 stream.
