The Norwalk softball team finished 1-1 at Saturday’s Oskaloosa Indian Classic, dropping a 7-2 decision vs. Wayne and defeating Ottumwa 11-1. The Class 4A 2nd-ranked Warriors are now 22-3 on the season.

Against Wayne, Norwalk senior Carly Brewer hit a game-tying two-run triple in the third, but the Class 1A 2nd-ranked Falcons scored five runs in the fifth to break the 2-2 tie. The game ended after five innings due to a time limit. Bailey Birmingham went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Warriors. Brewer took the loss, allowing eight hits and five earned runs in five innings. She walked five batters and struck out eight.

Norwalk tallied 10 hits in their 11-1 four-inning victory over Ottumwa. Maddie Gullion finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Cambry Livingston also went 2-for-3, Nyah Hulbert bashed her 14th home run and scored twice, and Dani Peters added a double and one RBI. Leah Crick pitched three innings for the win, striking out three.

Warriors host Oskaloosa

The Norwalk baseball and softball teams return to Little Hawkeye Conference play today, hosting Oskaloosa. Due to the threat of thunderstorms, both varsity games have been moved up to 4:00 p.m. The baseball game will be streamed live on kniakrls.com (KNIA3), starting with pregame coverage at approximately 3:45. The Warrior baseball team is 8-5 inside the Little Hawkeye and the softball team carries a conference record of 11-2.
