The Knoxville School Board approved the ordering of an election at their meeting Monday night.
This election is for the issuance of $12.4 Million in general obligation school bonds for the construction of a new elementary school in the Veterans District. Community members have been collecting signatures in the last couple of weeks for a bond referendum on the ballot for November 4th and at Monday’s meeting the petition presented had 253 eligible signatures. The petition required 108 signatures from eligible voters who reside in the district, equal to 25% of those who participated in the last school board election.
The board also approved a resolution fixing a date for a hearing on the proposed issuance of approximately $26 Million school infrastructure sale, service, and use tax revenue and refunding bonds which will take place July 14th. The meeting closed with the board approving a high school gym sound system replacement from Daktronics and Ardent Lighting for just over $36,000 and a girls soccer fundraiser.
