Even as nearby lightning ended festivities early and took a few Dutch runs off of the board, the #2 in 3A Pella baseball team had plenty of cushion in completing the season sweep over Pella Christian in a 9-1 game heard live on 92.1 KRLS on Monday.

The game on Eagle Lane was moved up to avoid what eventually became 3-4″ of heavy rain in town, but that didn’t stop the Dutch from spreading out their offensive production over five of the six innings finished. The Dutch had three runs and a threat still going in the top of the 7th before thunder paused and impending rain ultimately led to the finale of the game, reverting back to the six innings finished.

Pella had home runs from Landyn Bethards and Nathan Carey, the latter of whom returned to the mound for the first time in several weeks, striking out four batters in two innings. Isaiah Kettler pitched 3 and 2/3 innings, striking out seven Eagles batters. Eliot Menninga scored the lone P.C. run in the 6th, with Logan Gallaher earning the RBI on a Kettler bases-loaded walk.

The Dutch improve to 18-5 overall and 12-4 in the conference and are off until the conference finale of the summer on Friday at home against Oskaloosa. The Eagles drop to 5-18 overall and 1-13 against league foes, and they go from hosting #2 in 3A to #2 in Class 2A, as undefeated Pleasantville comes to town for a non-conference matchup. Coverage begins at 6:45 this evening — weather permitting, on 92.1 KRLS.
