
As a result of the ongoing investigation, the Newton Police Department has filed charges against four individuals in connection with the death of 66-year-old Tomie Lee Misner, Jr. The following individuals have each been charged with Abuse of a Corpse, a Class C Felony, and Obstruction of Prosecution or Defense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor:
Jeffrey Alan Stevens, 53, of Newton
Scott Ray Mabrier, 63, of Des Moines
Thomas Patrick Olofson, 47, of Hudson
Alysha Anne Buell, 36, of Des Moines
According to investigators, the individuals are alleged to have been involved in concealing or destroying physical evidence, failing to disclose the death, and attempting to conceal and dispose of the body. The cause of death is still under investigation, pending autopsy and toxicology results.
On Monday, June 9th at approximately 7:03 p.m., local, county, and federal law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at 1210 N 4th Avenue E in Newton. During the execution of the warrant, Misner was found dead inside the residence.
The Newton Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Jasper County Attorney’s Office.
