A game that saw a combined 20 runs and 29 hits went the way of the Pleasantville softball team Tuesday night, as they downed Pella Christian 12-8 in a non-conference contest on Eagle Lane.
The Eagles jumped out to the early lead in the game with a three-run bottom of the first inning. The Trojans answered back with five runs of their own in the top of the third, before Pella Christian knotted the game back up with two runs in the bottom of the frame. From there Pleasantville took the advantage for good. The Trojans plated four runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the seventh, while the Eagles managed just single runs in the fifth through seventh innings, giving Pleasantville the 12-8 win. The Trojans recorded 12 hits in the victory, with Harper McGraw, Clara Metcalf, Faith Nelson, and Taylor Perkins each recording two hits on the night and combining to bat in seven of the team’s 12 runs. Chloe Snyder and Laurel Roozeboom each went 3-4 in the loss for Pella Christian, with Roozeboom batting in two runs and Snyder recording two runs scored and an RBI. Pleasantville head coach Alee Phillips said that her squad’s defense played an outstanding game, and made several run-saving plays to help propel them to the win.
The Trojans improved to 12-7 overall with the victory, while the Eagles fell to 7-13 on the summer. Following a May 16th postponement, Pleasantville will make up their game against Des Moines Christian tonight at 5 pm, while Pella Christian will travel to Oskaloosa tonight for a Little Hawkeye Conference doubleheader at 5:30 pm.
