A $2.4-million seal coat project is scheduled for next year southwest of Prairie City on 4.4-miles of West 129th Street South and South 96th Avenue West. The Jasper County Board of Supervisors Tuesday approved the only bid submitted for the work from Manatt’s Incorporated. Jasper County Engineer Mike Frietsch says the company’s $2,447,974 quote was about 12% below the engineer’s estimate, which was just under $2.8 million. He also noted there’s quite a bit of extra work involved.
“There’s quite a few crossroad pipe culvert aprons that need repaired out there. There is a fair amount of dirt work that has to be done to bring the road up to current standards. So it’s actually an involved project. More involved than we anticipated in the beginning.”
Frietsch says $2.2 million in federal funding will pay for most of the work, which will occur on West 129th Street South, from State Highway 163 to South 96th Avenue West. On South 96th Avenue West, the project extends from West 129th Street South to Pacific Street. Manatt’s is to begin this project no later than May 26th of next year, and has 80 working days to complete it.
